Services

Aaspen Tree Service is known for quality work at reasonable prices. Reed Bales received a Bachelors Degree in Forestry from the University of Minnesota. He is also an ISA Certified Arborist with over 30 years of experience. Reed and his professional staff are trained and experienced in the following services:

CABLING: Cabling branches above a split or crotch to one another.

This is done to prevent crotches from splitting or to keep splits from getting worse.

DEADWOODING: Cutting out all deadwood and stubs.

This will make the tree look better and be healthier because the cambium (tissue responsible for bark production) will be able to heal over the cut rather than have that piece of dead material blocking the healing process as well as serving as an entry way into the tree for insects and disease.

RAISING: Cutting off or cutting back the lower limbs of the tree to attain a certain height.

Try to balance the height all the way around the tree. This is usually done to provide room to walk under the tree or to clear the tree back from a roof or building.

REMOVAL: Cutting the tree down to the ground level.

It’s not as easy as it looks and there are many stories about people ending up with catastrophes because they thought, “anyone can take a tree down.” Besides the obvious of avoiding damage to buildings, sidewalks, driveways and power lines, care should also be taken to minimize damage to neighboring trees, shrubbery and even the lawn itself. All dead trees should be removed for aesthetic and safety purposes. Some trees such as elms should be removed after they die or become infected with disease so that they will not pose a threat to healthy elms.

SHAPING: Cutting and pruning the crown of the tree to give it a round shape.

This is done mostly on fruit trees such as apples and an ornamental s like Russian olives, mountain ash and on some smaller maples.

THINNING: Reducing the number of branches in the crown of the tree.

This is done by selectively cutting out the badly shaped branches, duplicate branches (branches that grow side by side to one another – cut one out), and rubbers (branches whose main stems rub on another – cut one out). The thinned tree should be well balanced and symmetrical. Thinning helps increase the root to shoot ratio which will make your tree more resistant to drought and adverse factors. Thinning your tree will also help your lawn by letting more sunlight in!
